James Dalton Caran entered the St Petersburg State N. Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in 2010. In 2013, he won the first prize in the II Isaac Schwarz Regional Competition of Performers of Russian Romance. He also won a prize for the promotion of Russian musical and poetic art at the XVII International Moscow Competition of Young Performers of Russian Romance. In 2016, he won second prize in the II International Voice Competition "Starry Rhapsody" in St Petersburg, where he also received a special prize for original interpretations of chamber music. The same year, he became a winner of the prestigious X International Zara Dolukhanova "Amber Nightingale" Voice Competition in Kaliningrad, and was additionally awarded a prize for the best performance of a cycle of German Romanticism. He has won various prizes for his performances of folk music, Russian romances and war songs, and has performed in concert on stages such as the Small Hall and the Grand Hall of the St Petersburg Philharmonic and the Kaliningrad Philharmonic. James continues to study under Valentina Gagen.
