Professor | Ulf Wallin

Accompanist | Indrė Baikštytė

A graduate of both the National Conservatory of Music and Dance in Paris (CNSMD) and the Hanns Eisler University of Music Berlin, Léon Haffner began his studies in Lyon. He was then admitted to prof. Alexis Galperine's class at the CNSMD in Paris, and in 2019 to prof. Ulf Wallin's class in Berlin. Passionate about ensemble performance, he became a concertmaster of the French Youth Orchestra at the age of 18, then joined the European Union Youth Orchestra and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra Academy. He improved his string quartet skills by taking part at the Seiji Ozawa International Academy and the NUME International Academy and Festival, also received advice from musicians Mihaela Martin, Kolja Blacher, Gerhard Schulz, Nobuko Imai and the Artemis Quartet, who helped him in developing his musical personality. As a chamber musician, he has performed alongside Erich Höbarth, David Gaillard and Andreas Brantelid at the French national and international festivals, including the Festival Pablo Casals in Prades, the Festival des Douves in Onzain, and the Bolzano Festival. He pursues his young career by performing regularly with the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and the Orchestra of Paris, with whom he did the records for Decca Classics in 2023, as the orchestra was lead by Klaus Mäkelä. Léon won 1st prize at the French Music Competition, took part in the Carl Nielsen Competition 2022, and was one of the five French competitors at the Queen Elisabeth Competition. Since 2019 he has been supported by the Deutschlandstipendium programme, and is a 2024 laureate of the Fondation Gautier Capuçon.
